An issue occurs when older Mac OS are not been updated to use the new TLS Cipher with TLS 1.2 and then Mac Mail auto-updates to force SSL. When Mac Mail tries to connect over SSL/TLS, our servers will try to make the connection on TLS 1.2 and those systems can’t do it so the connection fails.
- In order to turn off SSL on your Mail application click on Mail at the top right of your screen and go to Preferences
- From here go to the account you wish to edit and click Advance
- Next untick ‘Automatically Manage Connection Settings’, untick the box for Use SSL, change the port to 143 and tick the box for Allow insecure connections
- Return to the Server setting page and ensure the incoming server is set to mail.domain.ie (replacing ‘domain.ie’ with your actual domain name)
- Once done you will need to click into a new account or change to the General tab in order to get the option to save
- One saved, return to the accounts page and click on the drop down for Outgoing server Setting
- Click Edit SMTP servers and select the server you wish to edit
- From here update the outgoing server to mail.domain.ie (replacing ‘domain.ie’ with your actual domain name) and go to Advanced
- Next update the port to 25, untick use SSL and tick ‘Allow Insecure connection’ and finally untick ‘Automatically Manage connection settings
- Click done and close Mac mail
